Graduates of this class should have an adequate advanced cultural and professional training to be able to intervene with advanced skills in the care, managerial, educational and research processes in one of the relevant areas of the various health professions included in the class (nurse, midwife). 2nd cycle graduates, who have acquired the necessary scientific knowledge, ethical values and skills relevant to the profession in the nursing and obstetrics area at the end of the course are able to express advanced management, training and prevention skills in response to priority problems of public health in childhood and adulthood and to issues related to the quality of services.
On the basis of the knowledge they have acquired, graduates of the class are able to take into account, in the planning and management of personnel in healthcare, of the community needs as well as of the development of new methods of work organization, of the technological and IT innovation with respect also to remote-assistance and distance education, of the planning and organization of pedagogical-training as well as of the homogenization of operating standards to those of the European Union.
The educational objectives of the course are defined as a continuation and advancement of the objectives of 1st cycle degree courses in Nursing and Midwifery. The course aims at providing the skills needed to fill roles in health services as an expert in Nursing and Midwifery, in the management of the nursing and midwifery and in the design, implementation and evaluation of training processes in nursing and midwifery, in basic and lifelong training for the relevant professional fields. The 2nd cycle Degree in Nursing and Midwifery aims at providing systemic training and to train specialists with critical spirit on the set of phenomena and problems existing in the nursing and obstetric contexts of health and health services. Graduates of the class also develop, as a result of the experience gained through adequate professional activity, an integrated approach to organization and management issues of healthcare professions, qualified by the mastery of the techniques and procedures of healthcare management in accordance with their skills and those of others . The methodological knowledge acquired, finally, enable graduates of the class to intervene with mastery in the specific educational and research process of nursing and midwifery.
The educational programme enables graduates of this class to acquire the skills needed to apply their knowledge of basic sciences relevant to the specific professional figure, for making decisions with respect to the organization and management of health services provided in low, medium or high complexity public or private healthcare facilities; to use their health economics and business organization skills for the successful organization of health services and the management of human and technological resources available evaluating the cost/benefit ratio; to use the methods and tools of research in the area of healthcare services organization and apply the impact of different theoretical models in the operation of health services organization and management; to program the optimization of various (human, technological, computer, financial) resources types available to the low, medium or high complexity health facilities; to design and implement training programs for updating and training of the relevant healthcare structures; to develop teaching skills for the specific professional profile within the tutorial activities and coordination of training in basic, complementary and permanent training; to communicate clearly on organizational and healthcare issues with their employees and customers; to analyze critically the ethical and deontological aspects of nursing and midwifery in a multi-professional integration perspective.
For this reason, the specific educational programmes for the health professions in this class have been defined through the appropriate selection of the disciplines of core courses and of the scientific areas related to specific vocational courses, reserving at least 50 credits for specific disciplines of each health profession.
