The 2nd cycle Degree Course in Social Work and Social Policies aims at educating professionals capable of reading the territory, understanding its issues and carrying out managerial activities in the relevant administrations, to tackle the various social situations, proposing adequate solutions to the complexity of social issues. In view of this objective, the course provides an interdisciplinary approach, based upon a close link between professional subjects and sociological, economic and legal subjects in their various articulations. A particular attention is paid not only to core sociological subjects, but also to other scientific areas for their importance in the understanding of social processes and in an adequate construction of targeted social policies, and namely: Business Organisation, for competences related to public economics, local authorities, management accounting and coordination and organisation of interventions in the region, coordination and management of cooperation and non profit organisations; Private Law and Administrative Law , with respect to some specific themes of the course, focusing on citizenship rights, immigrants" rights, juvenile rights and on the social effects of laws regulating public and private employment. The course also entitles practice activities and a dissertation aiming at a more adequate development of the interdisciplinary approach already built with mandatory courses.
Graduates of this course may access to the national qualification examination for Social worker (Section A of the National Register) and, after passing it, to the following activities: a) Elaboration and management of programmes in the field of Social policies and work; organisation of management systems in the field of co-operation ant non profit organisations; b) Planning, organisation and management in the field of Social policies and work and organisation of management systems in the field of co-operation ant non profit organisations; c) Management of services providing complex interventions in the field of Social policies and work and organisation of management systems in the field of co-operation ant non profit organisations; d) Analysis and quality evaluation of intervention in Social policies and work and organisation of management systems in the field of co-operation ant non profit organisations; e) Supervision of professional training practice of students of the Degree Courses in the class LM-87 " Social Work and Social policies; f) Social research and Social work research; g) Education and training related to the planning and management of Social Work policies; Therefore, they may carry out the following activities: - Organisation, management and consultancy to people, organisations and institutions, with respect to relational dynamics, human resources management, organisation of resources and facilities and economic management of agencies, services and organisations, also in the field of co-operation and non-profit, as well as the planning of social policies. 2nd cycle graduates of this course may also carry out their professional activity, in the fields of prevention and promotion, management, education, training and research, as well as of help in social inclusion and cohesion processes and in the recognition of social rights.
The 2nd cycle degree course in Social Work and Social Policies requires, for the mandatory final examination, an original dissertation which might be also, but not necessarily, related to the practice period. The dissertation should demonstrate the capability of using the available knowledge of descriptive data and of relevant literature, their correct critical processing, the capability of drawing mature and appropriate conclusions and of pointing out operational indications with respect to the analysis of empirical cases.
