The 2nd cycle degree course in Energetic and Nuclear Engineering aims at training specialist engineers with competences in the field of technological innovation, production development, advanced design, planning and programming, management of complex systems, in the field of private practice, of industrial production, services and in the public administration. The foremost objective is to maintain the high cultural qualification of the degree in engineering obtained with the former system (5 year course), making the best to keep the real length of studies equal to the normal duration of the degree course, The 2nd cycle degree course in Energetic and Nuclear Engineering aims at training specialist engineers for the promotion and development of technological innovation and for activities related to design and research. The educational programmes are characterised by a broad spectrum core education, investigating the technical and scientific aspects related to industrial engineering subjects as well as to specific energy and nuclear engineering subjects. This 2nd cycle degree course provides an adequate specialisation level about central issues of Energetic and Nuclear Engineering. Graduates of this course will: 1) Know in depth the theoretical-scientific aspects of mathematics and of other core sciences and be able to use this knowledge to interpret and describe complex engineering problems or problems requiring an interdisciplinary approach: 2) Possess advanced knowledge of the theoretical-scientific aspects of mathematics and other core sciences, and be able to use this knowledge to interpret and describe complex engineering or interdisciplinary problems; 3) Possess advanced knowledge of theoretical-scientific aspects of engineering, both at general and more advanced level, with respect to issues related to energetic and nuclear engineering, in order to be able to identify, formulate and solve, even in an innovative way, complex or interdisciplinary problems; 4) Be able to ideate, plan, design and manage complex and/or innovative systems, processes and services; 5) Design and run high complexity experiments. They will also possess soft skills and competences related to business organisation (business culture) and to professional ethics. This course aims at training specialised professionals in the energy sector, capable of facing the current energy issues for all primary sources and their exploitation. This is even more important since the growing and renewed interest, in the world, in the European Union and in Italy too, for nuclear power, even in a short term perspective, as well as the need for granting sustainable development in a world where, for 50 years at least, there is the need for a wide utilisation of fossil sources through innovative technologies.

The 2nd cycle degree course aims at training specialist engineers with competences in the field of technological innovation, production development, advanced design, planning and programming, management of complex systems, in the field of private practice, of industrial production, services and in the public administration. The importance of energy sector in the national industrial sector, the EU and abroad leaves no doubt about the number and quality of employment opportunities offered by the degree course, today great attention is paid to the use of resources in general and energy resources, in particular, being them conventional or alternative, renewable and assimilated, with the aim of promoting systems and technologies for sustainable development by limiting the impact on the environment. The professional opportunities are related to the employment in: - Public and private institutions providing full energy services, (not only electric power, but also gas, heating, servicing, financial services, as well as ready-to-use equipments; - Public administration; - A huge number of production companies (from small to big ones) in the field of energy and of components of energy plants; - Industrial research centres. Moreover, graduates, thanks to the specialisation acquired, possess the competences and cognitive tools to design and manage nuclear technologies in the field of energy production by nuclear fission. They will also possess competences related to the development of studies on nuclear fusion as well as to new applicative areas in industrial and medical technologies. They will also have specific competences on plant reliability, safety and risk analysis issues, with respect in particular to projects for new reactors, to the nuclear fuel cycle, to radio-protection and deactivation of nuclear plants. This professionals may find adequate professional opportunities, especially in the current economic climate where there are not many specialists.

The final examination consists of the discussion of a written dissertation, prepared by the student under the guidance of supervising professors and/or professional experts; the paper aims at ascertaining candidates technical-scientific and professional competences;; the dissertation topic Is chosen by candidates, or proposed by the professors, and approved by the Board of the Degree Course.
