Graduates of this course should: - possess advanced knowledge of two languages (of which at least one European language) besides Italian, with full command of the variations due to the socio-linguistic, international and multimedia context of the language as well as of the receptive and productive skills of the speakers involved; - know the civilisation of the Country of the studied language in its historical-geographic economic-social and political aspects , in a way to use them in a international communication perspective; - command the methods and tools of analysis and theoretical thinking about languages, and of applied linguistics in its declinations; - command the web communication tools (sites, blogs, platforms and the like) and use them within their language skills and professional activities; - possess knowledge of communication processes, namely the globalised processes of institutional and international communication; - be aware of the cognitive an psycho-social principles of multilingualism and multiculturalism, as well as the principal activities characterising them, with a particular attention to the variety of translation processes at the basis of linguistic activities and professional profiles; - have acquired knowledge of core social, economic and legal science subjects; - be able to use ICT in their specific professional area. The normal course of the 2nd cycle Degree in Modern Languages and Translation for International Communication is two years. To achieve the Degree, students must have acquired 120 credits.
The possible professional opportunities for graduates of this Course are: - managerial or high responsibility roles in the international relations, both between individuals and in institutional settings; - Self-employment consultancy or collaboration with agencies, institutions, facilities and private companies in all fields requiring functions of connection between international actors or linguistic mediation; - Field research experts or documentation research experts, with particular reference to the social and human sciences; - Translators of written texts in various fields: from the technical-scientific, legal, bureaucratic and computer science sector, to the practical issues of economic and commercial activities and business at large; - Linguistic mediators in public administration and public and private institutions to facilitate and mediate the confrontation in multiethnic and multicultural contexts, as well as in cultural tourism circuits; - Professionals in the communication linguistic information techniques for the web; - Experts in language education and training, in both institutional and private sectors, for the retraining of professionals and workers of development aid, economic, social and cultural integration, economic and productive activities; - Specialised consultants in public agencies for protection of immigrant languages and, more generally, in relation to the language legislation of the European Union; - Future foreign language teachers in the school; - Future researchers in the field of languages. Elective activities enable students to improve their preparation for these career opportunities and facilitate access to other job opportunities. Graduates of this course will be able to access a PhD course, in accordance with the ministerial regulations and individual universities regulations, or a second level University Master Course in accordance to the regulations of the organising university. Mandatory activities of the degree course aim at preparing for access to PhD courses in the following subject areas: - Linguistics; - Communication Sciences; - Foreign Languages, literatures and civilisations. Elective activities enable students to improve their preparation for these types of PhD courses and to facilitate access to other types. Graduates of this Course may find teaching job in the school, once completed the process of teaching qualifications and competitive examinations required by law.
The 2nd cycle Degree in "Modern Languages and Translation for international relations" is awarded after passing a final examination, consisting of the presentation and discussion of an original thesis prepared by the student under the guidance of a supervisor, in one of the relevant scientific sectors for which courses are provided for in the regulations of the degree course and in which the student has earned credits. The thesis must be accompanied by a short multimedia or web presentation. For the choice of the topic of the thesis, the student must have earned at least 30 credits. The methods for the choice and preparation of the topic of the thesis as well as for the choice of the supervisor are fixed in the Regulations of the Degree Course in accordance with the guidelines of the Faculty Board. To be admitted to the final examination, which leads to the acquisition of 30 credits, the student must have earned 90 credits. The modalities of the final examination are laid down in the Regulations of the Degree Course in accordance with the guidelines of the Faculty Board.
