Course info
The course aims at educating engineers with sound basic engineering groundings, upon which they may build, in accordance with the selected curriculum, specific management engineering or computer engineering skills. The course provides the competences needed to work effectively within public and private facilities and, thanks to the strong attention for core disciplines, it also provides adequate cultural groundings for autonomously acquiring and upgrading their competences for the changes of the labour market. The common programme provides basic knowledge and competences in: mathematical analysis, geometry, physics, computers, as well as specific subjects such as engineering economics, statistics, automatic control, quality management and product development. With respect to specific competences, the ones provided within the curriculum in management engineering are: industrial plants and industrial production management and business economics, human resources management, law. For the computer-engineering curriculum, the course provides for the following specialist knowledge and competences:programming, design and management of databases, operating systems and computer networks.
The 1st cycle degree allows access to 2nd cycle degree courses in Management Engineering or Computer Engineering of the University of Palermo as well as to equivalent courses in the national territory. Graduates with the computer science curriculum may find professional opportunities in public institutions and private companies such as hardware and software companies, automation companies, companies operating in the area of information systems and of the design and production of equipment for data processing and communication, computer service providers and, in general, all the structures that make use of networks and systems for information management. There are many placement opportunities for graduates with the management curriculum: from industrial companies to services companies, from public administration to finance, from consulting to entrepreneurial activity.
For the management engineering curriculum, the final exam consists of the presentation of a specific topic in front of a board appointed in accordance with the University Educational Regulations. The exam aims at ascertaining the technical-scientific groundings and communication skills of the candidate. The topic, proposed by the candidate, is assigned by the Board of the Degree Course and is related to class specific issues. For the computer engineering curriculum, the final exam consists in a written exam on two main topics selected by board appointed in accordance with the University Educational Regulations. The written exam aims at ascertaining the technical-scientific groundings of the candidate. For both curricula, the final examination is awarded with 3 credits.
