Course info
The degree course in Chemical engineering aims at training professionals with core competences of industrial engineering at large as well as of chemical engineering in particular, providing them the highest flexibility to easily fit into the labour market. Therefore, the course provides for 60 credits in common with Industrial Engineering, including core subjects (mathematics, chemistry and physics) and class specific subjects (industrial design, Machines, Construction Theory). The completion of Industrial Engineering training is achieved through the course in Electrical Engineering). The programme also provides for at least 54 credits related to the typical chemical Engineering competences, such as the principles of thermal dynamics, the principal properties and performances of the more common technological materials, the transportation phenomena, unit operations, the design of equipment and the most important chemical industrial processes. The course will pay particular attention to the economic, safety, environmental sustainability and professional ethic aspects in the field of equipment design and of the study of chemical processes. These issues might be further investigated through seminars. The final examination, awarded with 6-9 credits, consists of the preparation of a paper under the guidance of course professors; the paper might also be related to the internship period within companies or research labs.
The main career opportunities for graduates of this course are the chemical, food, pharmaceutical, manufacturing industry; manufacturing and material processing companies, industrial laboratories, technical departments of public administration.
The final examination consists of the preparation and discussion of a paper, written under the guidance of a supervising professor and of possible other professors or external tutors, aiming at ascertaining the technical-scientific and professional groundings of the candidate. The paper should be related to theoretical or applicative issues of chemical engineering and may be related to the internship period spent at companies or research laboratories.
