The 2nd cycle Degree Course in "Modern Philology and Italian Studies" aims at increasing the cultural background of students and, above all, at developing their capability for original independent and critical exercise by providing them the latest research tools with respect to the nature of disciplines taught. This objective will be achieved on one hand refining their knowledge in a more specialist sense, with depth of content, and the other developing the abilities of analysis and research. In light of this objective, the course provides for specific activities, and namely: 54 credits in the scientific areas that are considered foundational: L-FIL-LET/10 Italian Literature, L-FIL-LET/11 contemporary Italian Literature, L-FIL-LET/12 Italian Linguistics, L-FIL-LET/09 Romance Philology, L-FIL-LET/13 Philology of Italian literature. The educational programme provides for frontal teachings and seminars which, through intense oral and written activity, will thoroughly investigate contents and methodologies, aiming at a full critical and expository development. Competences will be assessed through oral and written tests. Laboratory activities will be tested through mid-term and final written and practical tests. Stage and practice activities will be assessed through a final report, signed by the students, by the delegate of the Degree Course, and by the officer of the hosting organisation, and approved by the Board of the Degree Course. The course aims at providing graduates with a priority in various careers in the teaching of humanities, and/or able to fit into professional spaces in publishing, journalism, research, organization and management of cultural events.

It consists of a written dissertation, awarded with 30 credits, in which the candidate shows the capability of tackling the selected topic with adequate methodological tools and writing ability. The dissertation will be publicly discussed and evaluated. The exam, which demonstrates the students' global reach, involves. In particular, independence and originality of method and results. The ways in which the dissertation will be discussed and evaluated in terms of final grades are set forth in the Course Regulations
