Course info
The objectives of the Degree course in Regional, environmental and town planning can be thus summarized: a) Education of experts capable of facing: a1)the use of new technologies (information technologies, CAD, GIS, telematics) for the analysis, description, interpretation and evaluation of local and environmental transformations; a2)the amelioration of historical town centres and urban and regional requalification. a3)the protection and enhancement of cultural and environmental heritage both at a local and regional level. b) Education of professionals for activities in the public administrations, such as control, management and evaluation of town and territory transformation processes and the prevision/implementation of complex programs and public works, with respect, in particular, to the indications and tools provided for by the European Union and to EU economic resources, as well as European development policies. Education in this field mustinto account the big changes in the need for planning (from the worsening of environmental problems at a global level, to the globalisation of economic and cultural dynamics, to new forms of unrest), changes which are straining the ethical tenets, the status, and the theoretical and methodological apparatus of planning itself. These changes do affect not only the labour market and the birth of new professional profiles, but also all the needs, even social ones, to which the “culture” of planning is obliged to respond. To achieve these objectives the Degree Course provides a set of theoretical-practical teachings aiming at the comprehension of territorial phenomena, not only from the theoretical point of view, but also through practical experimentations. These subjects include general issues as well as social science issues, related to the typical techniques and procedures of regional and town planning. Experimental courses are provided together with theoretical ones. These courses, names “studios” are related to general town, regional and environment issues, In these teachings the experimental reasons of the future profession are applied, and they will be object of further practical activities, during the stages provided at third year.
Professional opportunities can mostly be seen in the need of public administration for qualified personnel for the interpretation and implementation of regional governance policies, with respect to the national and international frameworks which will always more affect decisions in public policies for the development. Private practice and research could also benefit from people with experience of high value, both at theoretical level and in the field, such as the ones earned in the Degree course in Regional, urban, landscape and environmental planning. The professional sectors of graduates in Regional, urban, landscape and environmental planning are: - Public administrations in the field of regional governance and management; - Private sector, and in particular professional offices, research centres and agencies providing regional analysis, planning and management service at a high level; service companies for the design or the implementation of territorial information systems, multicriteria analysis systems, environmental impact evaluation of projects, strategic environmental evaluation, etc… - Public or private research institution on territorial transformations. The degree course in Regional, urban and environmental planning might also be integrated with a more specialist educational curriculum, i.e. by means of Second cycle two-year degree courses. After a national qualification examination, graduates obtain the qualification as junior planners and may enrol in the register of Architects, planners, landscape designers and curators – section B, “Planning” sector.
For the admission to final examinations, students should have acquired all credits provided by the educational activities The final examination consists of the discussion, in front of a Board apponied by the Board of the Degree Course, of a project previously agreed with a professore of the course. The final examination is awarded with 6 credits. The folllowing criteria are taken into account in the assessmento of the final examination: - The weighted average value, expressed out of 110, of the marks obtained in individual examinations; - University career as a whole, with regard in particular to the timing and continuity in the acquisition of credits; - The evaluation of the final examination, with respect to the overall preparation achieved by the candidate and demonstrated in the discussion, as well as to the quality of the paper related to the development and presentation of the assigned topic; - the assessment of student’s commitment and participation in extracurricular activities accredited by the Programme.
