The 2nd cycle degree course in Philosophy aims at providing students with advanced competences in the field of historical-philosophical studies and in the specialist fields of the theoretical, logical-epistemological, linguistics, gnosiological, philosophical-scientific, ethical-political and aesthetical research. Based on the competences and skills acquired during the 1st cycle, students will acquire advanced knowledge of the main methods for the historical-critical analysis of philosophical texts, with respect to basic concepts, forms of argumentation, particular languages, as well as to the theories and models of interpretation which are used in the various general and sectoral ambits of philosophy. Students will thus acquire the capability of defining and original research project, on an interdisciplinary plan and showing autonomous judgment capabilities with respect to issues related to the philosophical debate and, more generally, to issues present in the current cultural debate. In order to ensure students an appropriate specialisation with respect to various philosophical ambits, the course programme offers the possibility to chose in the field of Philosophy foundations, among Theoretical Philosophy, Philosophy of Language, Logic and Philosophy of Science, Moral Philosophy, Aesthetics, and in the historical-philosophical field, among History of Philosophy, History of Ancient Philosophy an History of Medieval Philosophy, enabling a coherent and harmonious study of ones own specific philosophical interest Students wishing to start a career in school teaching, may design their course outline in a way to acquire the competences needed for teaching.
Graduates of this course may access to the Teaching in secondary schools and to public competitions for PhD courses. They can also carry out professional tasks in activities requiring high responsibility positions in the following areas: publishing, management of libraries, museums and parks, exhibitions, literary prizes and other cultural activities requiring specific skills in the linguistics, aesthetic, literary and historic or artistic area, science center and inter-media communication, public relations, personnel management in the administrative sector in public or private companies; business management and organization; planning and management of training and refresher courses in public and private agencies, also in the field of bioethics, environmental ethics and more generally of applied ethics directed in particular to workers in the healthcare and other sectors; work activities related to the processing of information and knowledge, requiring full command of the mechanisms of cognition, promotion and care relationships between different cultures at national and international level, in social and interpersonal exchanges and in the recognition of the rights of citizenship, collaboration with social services and offices responsible for promoting cultural activities in public administration, marketing and creative advertising.
It consists of the discussion of an articulated dissertation about a topic previously agreed with a professor of the course. Candidates should demonstrate they are capable of tackling in a specialist and original way the philosophical issues related to the selected curriculum, coherently with the educational objectives of the curriculum and of the degree course. Final examinations is awarded with 24 credits.
