As part of the training of the aforementioned professional organizations, universities ensure that appropriate training in the field of protection against ionizing radiation. The Degree course in Medical Radiology Techniques, Imaging and Radiotherapy is organized into a single curriculum . The academic year is divided into 2 semesters. The unit of measurement of student work for the completion of each course in the teaching required in order to achieve the title of the study is the credit (CFU ). Each credit corresponds to 25 hours of student work, as provided for by art. 5, paragraph 1 of the Ministerial Decree No. 136 of April 2, 2001 ( Official Gazette No. 128 of 5.6.01 ) including : the classroom teaching : a) 12 hours available to the teacher for teaching; b ) 13 hours available to the student for personal study or other individual learning activities needed to complete his training. For the internship : a) 15 hours available to the teacher for the internship; b ) 10 hours available to the student . The credits for each course are acquired by the student after passing the exam. The Degree Course provides a total of 180 credits, 60 for each year, including at least 60 credits to be acquired in training activities aimed at maturing of specific skills (guided internship) . The educational objectives of the degree course in Medical Radiology Techniques, Imaging and radiotherapy are directed to provide students with a training enabling them: - to be able to apply the scientific and experimental method study of the anatomical, physiological and technological phenomena relevant to the profession, - to be able to use the fundamental principles of physics, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology applied to problems of medical imaging technology, - to know the role of the different anatomical and functional organization of biological structures and cell in the human body; - to acquire the knowledge required for understanding the biological phenomena, the main mechanisms of functioning of organs and systems, and have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and structural organs and systems, especially in their mutual topographic distribution; - to identify problems diagnostic and therapeutic places applicant by the medical practitioner with the technologies of imaging and therapeutic; - to learn the principles of cultural and professional basis to apply the diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, understand and exploit the full potential, carry out quality checks, - to know how to identify and contribute to the choice of the best processes of inquiry - to know the biological risks associated with their professional actions and know how to optimize the application processes of competence through supervision, updating and adaptation to technological development of their professional duties; - to know how to analyze, process, transmit, store the results of their professional activities by acquiring the skills necessary statistics and information, - to know how to articulate and interact in the production network of health and prevention both public and private; in particular, graduates must attain the professional skills indicated and specified for the profile; the achievement of professional competencies is obtained through theoretical training and acquisition of behavioral skills, as well as through adequate training activity practice and clinical internship. Clinical Internships must correspond to European standards for duration as well as for the type of acts planned and executed; - to know the general principles of pathology with respect to the issues relevant to the effects of ionizing radiation and radiological techniques, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy; - to accomplish the main effects and radiographic and learn about the different procedural techniques for diagnostic imaging, acquiring also the technical knowledge to assist the execution of investigations of ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, - to know the general principles of ' informatics and computer applications in radiological, with reference to the archiving of images, reports and data of clinical interest, health and acquire further knowledge of detection systems, storage and remote transmission of images; - to know the sources of ionizing radiation and other forms of energy used in the diagnosis and / or radiotherapy and its units of measurement; - to know the main features of the structure and operation of the equipment used; - to be able to select and use appropriate technologies and materials in order to produce X-ray images and radiation therapies, - to know the general principles of the interaction of radiation with living systems; - learn the procedures for radiation protection, environmental decontamination, use of radionuclides and marking of radio-compounds; - to learn technologies and materials in order to produce images and radiation therapies and the parameters that characterize the energy used in the extraction of the images; - to know the techniques of static and dynamic nuclear medicine investigations; - to acquire knowledge for the technical assistance of radiation treatments, the preparation and use of shielding and containment systems of the patient; - to be informed on the general principles of medical nuclear therapy and gain knowledge for the preparation of the doses for the implementation of measures on patient retention, for the elimination of organic waste, for decontamination measures; - to know the basics of the organization of work and of the collaboration with other health professions, as well as the financial and economic issues related to health care; - to know the ethical issues related to the profession, by applying the relevant standards, having regard to the relationship with the citizens who rely on his professionalism, and above all, to respect for their rights, for this purpose also implement a self- knowing .
